Antiquated Tech: 2019
I was born in 1980. The first computer we had at home was an Apple IIe. Frogger, Oregon Trail, Choplifter and Prince of Persia were just a few of the games I can vividly recall playing. I remember getting my first Walkman, then a Discman. Then came the dial up modem, then cell phones started to appear, smartphones not too long after, and the rest is history.
We take for granted a myriad of bulky technological devices that took up some serious real estate and now easily slip into our pocket. I think of my life before the smartphone and after the smartphone. Our lives will never be quite the same because of the exponential advances in tech.
I think it is important to look back at these cultural artifacts. In doing so, we can see the progression of these technological totems. They conjure nostalgia and emerge as touchstones of our evolution.
